The Story of Good Shepherd
On October 19, 1975, twelve families met at the Adair City Hall to form Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
The Rev. John Mix was called as pastor and a parsonage was purchased at 701 Guthrie Street.
The members began worshiping together on Sunday November 9, at the First Presbyterian Church, where services continued to be held for over two years. On June 23, 1976, the congregation joined the American Lutheran Church Synod, the only new denomination to be established in Adair during the 20th Century. In October 1977, construction of a sanctuary was begun. The congregation, now consisting of thirty-one families, first worshiped in its new home on May 14, 1978. The following summer they purchased a parsonage at 508 Stuart Street. The church’s large iron cross and sign were dedicated September 7, 1986. In 2015 the church became a member of the LCMC.
Since its inception in 1975 members of Good Shepherd have given of themselves to minister to each other, the people of the community and the world. In those years they have become known as a body of people who believe strongly in the calling of Jesus Christ to be active members of “His Body” “The Church”.
Good Shepherd has had and continues to have an active Sunday School, ecumenical Day Camp, and mission groups of 5th and 6th graders. Additional activities include the community fall dinner, the Christmas wreath sales, participating in Jesse James Days activities in the community, the ladies’ Christmas gathering, the salad supper in the spring and the men’s steak fry each summer. We continue to invite others to consider being a part of such dynamic membership of God’s people.

Hello, My name is Andy Dunn. I am so happy to be at Good Shepherd. I thought I
would provide a short bio so you know your interim pastor.
I grew up in Cedar Rapids with my parents and two younger sisters. I graduated
from Linn-Mar High School in 1982; graduated from Luther College in 1986 with

Alex, who lives near Ithaca, New York. We have a son, William, who lives with his wife
Katie and son James in Ankeny.
